I Want Answers: Christianity’s Teachings & The Effect On It’s People.
Injustices in the world make you question a lot. Who’s to blame I don’t know but I want answers.
Many Sunday sermons are filled with dance, praise, and hope for better times. We are taught to have faith because faith will get you through your toughest times, but if you take a look at the community receiving this message times aren’t looking any better.
The majority of the African American communities are still impoverished, our worker’s are under paid, uneducated, but as faithful as ever because “God will provide a way”. We preach a man that doesn’t work doesn’t not eat, yet a person who has faith and faith alone will receive the kingdom of heaven.
We are teaching our people to sit back and accept the tough times because someone else, God, will make right our situation. Hard work, a sound mind, and persistence is what will create a better situation. We as a community have to try harder for ourselves.
Yes, we are aware of the biases and injustices that we have to face day to day but we have been letting these injustices cripple us because it’s too hard to fight back. Yes, we are running a race where we have a 50 year disadvantage. We know the facts, but if you don’t even attempt to run this race you will never win. Fight by doing better and proving the system wrong, fight even when you don’t want to fight because this is what will lead you to a better life. Fight for yourself.
If I told you there’s MAY be a million dollars in the room you are standing in but you have look for it, I would barely be able to finish my sentence before you started looking. That’s the same drive you need in your life. Will God come back and make life better, maybe, but are you going to idly wait around when you know you have a chance to make it by your own efforts?
If I told you what’s standing between you and a better life is yourself would you believe it?
