Closer Than You Think
So this was a piece I wrote when I was 14. It was an assignment for my English literature class. I recently stumbled upon it and since Halloween is near I decided to share my Horror Thriller. Hope you enjoy!

This is a story about a man and woman who lived together in a town called ‘Smoodville’. On a dark, misty, cold, and bleak autumn night, a man on horseback was making his way up to the couples’ tall white mansion. The windows of the mansion were dusty and the grass looked as if it had not been cut in years; the few plants around the house were withered, and the welcome mat on the door was so battered it didn’t seem to be so welcoming any more. The man went up to the door and knocked on it. Knock, knock. The man asked, “Morgan is your husband home?” Knock, knock. The door slowly opened up and this figure appeared. Just as the man looked up the figure grabbed him, and that was the last of the man.
One late afternoon Morgan went to town to pick up her clothes from the cleaners, when her eyes noticed a sign hanging on the wall. The notice read, “Tired of cooking, cleaning, shopping, and doing your household chores? If you are, give us a call at 1–800- 724–5986, and we’ll help you find a perfect match to do all of your chores for you.” Morgan kept walking not at all convinced by the offer. She thought to her self, why would anyone want to do something for me. I had my chance to do well and I blew it. Some days went by and she couldn’t seem to forget this offer, so Morgan gave the number a call. She called but couldn’t get through. The next day she returned to the same place but the notice was no longer there, a man stood there in its place. She approached him and asked, “Do you happen to know where the notice that was here went?” The man responded, “Why yes I took it down, the number didn’t seem to connect me to anyone.” They began to talk and immediately became attached to each other. Some time went on and they decided to move in together. The man was unbelievable; he cooked, cleaned, did the daily shopping, and all of the daily chores. Never once did he ever complain. Morgan found this to good to be true, but she decided even if this is to last for a short time I’m going to enjoy it while I can.
Things between Morgan and the man seemed to be going great so they decided to get married. One day while they were in the living room questions about each others family arose. Morgan asked, “Who taught you to do all of these house chores, and why are you so kind all of the time?” He responded, “My foster mother taught me how to be a man and fend for myself. I used to have a lot of hate and anger toward women because my mother abandoned me on my seventh birthday and that was almost twenty years ago. My foster mother told me that I was born out of wedlock and my mother was afraid she wouldn’t be able to take care of me anymore so she left. She taught me to get over this anger and love again.” Morgan replied, “Oh.” Her mind began to drift off, when he asked, “Why?”. Morgan just jokingly answered, “Because you seem as if you are some type of angel of something.” Although Morgan didn’t say anything to him, she thought about how she did the same to her child. She was young and afraid and didn’t know what to do.
Morgan went to sleep that night and was awakened three times by the same dream. She dreamt that her child came back for her and tried to kill her and her husband in order to repay her for abandoning him when he was younger. Morgan after time finally fell back asleep. She awoke later that morning to her husband, whom had made her breakfast in bed. He said, “I see you didn’t sleep very well last night so I decided to make you breakfast.”
Morgan couldn’t get the thought out of her head about her child in which she abandoned and she began to tell her husband the whole story. She said she didn’t remember how long ago she had abandoned him, but said his name was Christopher. Her husband became angry with her because she should have told him from the beginning, but found it in his heart to forgive her. Her husband had a secret of his own. He knew that his wife was his mother and he was just waiting for the proper time for her to tell him about her wrong deed. He changed his name when he turned eighteen from Christopher to Alexander. Every since his mother left him he solemnly swore that he would get back at his mother. He decided to do this when he recognized her in town. Alex prepared for this everyday as time went on from the day he made re connected with her again.
That evening they ate dinner together, and even though Alex got over the fact that his mother left him all of his anger came back that night. Alex waited for Morgan to go to bed and he paced back and forth as she slept. He decided after he couldn’t take it anymore that he was going to kill her. He began to speak to a friend about the plan after he was sure Morgan was asleep, but Morgan wasn’t totally asleep and she heard all of his plans. The next day Morgan went to town in order to allow Alex to set up his “secret” plan. She returned later on that evening and Alex said, “I want to show you that I truly forgive you and I want to go out to dinner.” This was all part of his “secret” plan. Morgan agreed, acting as if she was clueless to his plan. He said that he would be back and was going to go to the barber shop to get his hair cut. Hours passed and his friend arrived and knocked on the door, “Morgan is your husband home?”. Morgan opened the door while carrying a gun in her hand. She opened the door and immediately grabbed and a shot him. Morgan took his friend’s clothes and disguised herself as his friend.
Alex returned later on expecting the job to be done. Morgan opened the door disguised as his friend as said, “I got the job done want to see the body?” Alex replied, “Yes take me to it.” Morgan led him into the basement and then pulled off her disguise and shot and killed him.
Morgan disposed of the bodies and no one ever heard of her son and his friend ever again.
